Elekta was founded in 1972 by the late Lars Leksell, Professor of Neurosurgery at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. The company’s corporate headquarters continue to be located in Stockholm, and its shares have been listed on the Nordic Stock Exchange since 1994. In fiscal year 2009/10 (ended 30th April 2010), the company generated an operating profit of SEK1.1 billion on net sales of SEK7.4 billion. The company employs approximately 2,500 people worldwide.
