Shimadzu Corporation is a Japan-based precision instruments manufacturer that provides various industries around the world with analytical, medical, aircraft and industrial instruments and services. The company operates in four business segments:
Medical Systems – produces X-ray imaging systems, PET systems, CT scanners, combined PET/CT systems and ultrasound diagnostic instruments. In addition to supplying its systems to hospitals and other healthcare organisations, Shimadzu also has original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreements to supply systems to Fujifilm Corporation and Hitachi Medical Corporation. Shimadzu is the only Japanese company to manufacture PET products. Its CT systems and combined CT/PET products are only available in Japan.
Analytical and Measuring Instruments – manufactures general analytical instruments (chromatography and spectrometers) mainly for pharmaceutical, chemical and life sciences; surface analysers mainly for electronics; environmental analysers for environmental preservation; and testing and non-destructive inspection machines mainly for materials.
Aircraft Equipment – provides mainly flight control systems, air conditioning systems for cockpits and cabins; and head-up-displays that provide symbols and data at eye level for fighter pilots.
Industrial Machinery – provides mainly turbo-molecular pumps installed in semiconductor and flat panel display production equipment on board, chemical vapour deposition equipment for solar cells and hydraulic equipment for forklift trucks and construction machinery.
