Mölnlycke Health Care is a Gothenburg, Sweden-based manufacturer of single-use surgical and wound care products and services to the healthcare sector. The company began independent operations in 1998, through the merger of Swedish company, SCA Mölnlycke Clinical Products, and the Kolmi-Set Clinical division of Finnish company, Tamro, following both companies’ acquisition by Swedish venture capital company, Nordic Capital. In 2005, the company was acquired by Apax Partners, and merged with Medloc Medical. Then in 2007, the company was acquired by Investor AB (a Nordic investment group) and Morgan Stanley Principal Investments. Finally, in 2010, Investor AB purchased Morgan Stanley’s share of Mölnlycke, taking Investor AB’s ownership of the company to 96%. Mölnlycke operates as a subsidiary of Investor AB.

Mölnlycke sells its products to hospitals and healthcare professionals worldwide. The company has offices in 30 countries and manufacturing and distribution facilities in nine countries. The company operates through two divisions – Surgical Products and Wound Care.


Mölnlycke generates 60% of its sales from its Surgical Products division, and 40% through Wound Care. Of this, 77% of sales are generated in the EMEA region, 19% from North America and 4% from the Asia-Pacific region.

According to Mölnlycke, it is the leading wound care manufacturer in the European market. Worldwide, the company is also the second-largest foam-based supplier, producing and selling specialised wound care products made with its patented Safetec foam technology used in bandages, etc. Mölnlycke also claims to be the number two supplier of wound care products to the US market.

In the Surgical Products segment, Mölnlycke is in a market-leading position within single-use surgical consumables. The company is the global leader in powder-free surgical gloves, the European leader in headwear and surgical drapes and gowns, and number two in Europe in custom procedure trays and masks.
